Girls' Adventure in Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Camp
The Girls' Adventures in Mathematics, Engineering and Science Camp, coordinated by the UIUC Women in Engineering, is designed, in part, to address the problem of attracting women to scientific fields. This annual one-week residential program is intended to give academically talented young women an opportunity to explore math, engineering, and science through demonstrations, classroom presentations, hands-on activities, and contacts with other women in these technical fields. The 72 middle school girls constructed water towers that were tested on the MAE Center miniature shake table on Friday August 10, 2001. The water towers were constructed of wood strips and plastic cups mounted on the top of the structure. Professor Doug Foutch and MAE Center Research Assistant Can Simsir assisted the girls in testing the water towers.
