Multi-Hazards Colloquium Series

Examining the Structural Design of the World Trade Center Disaster was the focus for the first Mult-Hazards Colloqium Series, sponsored by the Undergraduate Task Force and Student Leadership Council on November 8, 2001, UIUC campus.  The colloquium was broadcast live to the other MAE Center institutions as a videoconference and on the Internet.

Thomas B. Berns, Illinois State Representative, gave the keynote presentation. Part I of the colloquium concentrated on the structural and getoechnical damages. Engineering Systems, Inc. on-site team discussed Structural Engineering Involvement in the Rescue Effort at Ground Zero. Engineering Systems, Inc. speakers included: Dan Wojnowski, August Domel, and Chad Fischer. James M. LaFave, Assistant Professor from UIUC Civil Engineering Department spoke on the Assessment of Structural and Non-Structural Damage in Buildings Adjacent to the World Trade Center Site.

Community impact was the focus of Part II. Speakers included UIUC Willard Airport Manager Joe Attwood, UIUC Willard Airport Fire Marshall/Safety Officer John Smith, American Red Cross Illini Prairie Chapter Director Barbara Payne, and UIUC Willard Airport Marketing Director Jon Rector.
