Construction Technology Labratories Field Trip

Each year the Student Leadership Council hosts a "learn about earthquake engineering" field trip for undergraduate students. The purpose of the field trip is to introduce students to the field of earthquake engineering with portions of theory, hands-on learning, and exposure to some of the real-world challenges. Last year the students visited a seismic retrofitting project in St Louis, MO hosted by Jacobs-Sverdrup. This year students visited the Construction Technology Laboratories (CTL) in Skokie, IL on April 17, 2003. Anthony Fiorato, CTL President presided over the welcome session, lunch, and tour of facilities. CTL presenters included Ronald Berg - CTL Vice-President, Hans Kosel - Principal Structural Engineer and Senior Manager for Structural Evaluation, Tom Weinmann - Principal Engineer and Manager for Sensors and Structural Diagnostics, Armin Mehrabi - Senior Principal Engineer for Engineering and Applied Research, and Allen Davis - Senior Principal Engineer and Manager for Non-destructive Testing. Co-sponsors for the field trip include ASCE Student Chapter, Chi Epsilon, EERI Student Chapter, and UIUC Engineering Council.
