Research Experience for Undergraduates-1999

The MAE Center and PEER jointly sponsored the REU Symposium held in Memphis, TN on August 19-21, 1999.  The REU students presented the results of their summer's research.  The educational program coordinators from each center, Professor Gerard Pardoen of the University of California-Irvine and Professor Phillip Gould of Washington University, were present.  Professor Ed Harris of Texas A&M University conducted the ethics exercise and Gary Patterson of CERRI arranged the field lectures.  The group visited archeological sites that contained numberous eathquake-induced sandblows and dikes and toured landmark earthquake engineering projects in the Memphis area.
